Tonedog Fender Pro Junior Mods

If you're looking for that tweed sound on a budget, Tonedog.com offers some interesting modifications to the 15 watt all tube Fender Pro Junior. First off, for the price (approx $379 plus tax), it's hard to beat the basic Fender Pro Junior. Just like it's forefathers the Fender Champ, Pricenton & Harvard, the Fender Pro Junior is a pure and uncomplicated all-tube amp. Crank it up for natural tube overdrive, and vary its response with your guitar's controls. It comes with two EL-84 Groove Tube output tubes and a pair of 12 AX7 preamp tubes. However if you want to really zero in on that classic tweed sound and not break the bank on a vintage tweed amp, Tonedog may have your answer.

Given the name the "Fender Pro Senior" Tonedog has created a simple cabinet / speaker mod that designed to make the Pro Junior really come close to that vintage tweed breakup. In response to the 1x10 particle board cabinet that comes stock with the Fender Pro Junior, Tonedog offers a 1x12 cabinet ($275) made of finger jointed pine which really opens up the tone. In addition they highly recommend installing a Signature 12 Alnico S model for this amp, which they for $45. If you order a speaker with your cabinet mod they offer free installation.

I have yet to play through the Pro Senior but this seems like a really compelling solution. Please feel free to share any and all comments, mp3 links and personal experience regarding this mod.
