Allen Amps has produced a number of top amps, all of which are hand-crafted and built with only the best parts. It’s this dedication to high quality that has made their products very popular. One of their top amps is the Old Flame. This boutique amp was introduced in 2007. The current Old Flame amp is actually an update on Allen Amp’s classic Old Flame. However, while it’s based on a classic, it does feature a new angled-front stainless steel body and has brand new black barrel knobs. The Old Flame also comes in two new models: a 1x12 and a 4x10.

The Old Flame has two different output power settings: the 6L6GC tubes power it at 40 watts, while the 6V6GT tubes provide 25 watts of power. This AB class push-pull amp features an adjustable fixed bias, and it uses four 12AX7 tubes, two 6L6GCs, and a GZ34. For eq, you can control the treble, bass, and the midrange, and the amp also features raw control and a bright switch. The master volume lets you control everything at once. Your reverb is driven by an all-tube long three-spring medium delay tank and features mix, tone, and dwell controls.

The Old Flame design is loosely based on the Fender Super Reverb from the 1960s. However, the Old Flame doesn’t have a vibrato function or a normal channel. It does feature, however, a master volume, a three knob reverb, the raw control, and several other new options that the Fender amp did not have.

Allen Amplification features seven different all tube and hand-wired boutique amps. These amps are based on classic circuits from the 1960s, but while the basic design is vintage, they add some new dimensions to the mix.

The Classic 10 Combo amp is ten watts of great tone control. It features a unique type of boost switch that really gives you more mids and highs to make your lead sound cut. It’s a fairly simple amp without a lot of bells and whistles, but it will give you an amazing clean tone and it breaks up nicely when pushed.

Then there’s the Sweet Spot. This amp can provide 18 or 25 watts of juice with bass, middle, and treble controls plus a bright switch. The reverb is completely tube driven, and it features adjustable fixed bias.

The Accomplice amp has several different power options—22, 35, or even 40 watts. It brings in a master volume control, bass, treble, middle, and raw controls, and a bright switch. It’s designed after the Fender Deluxe Reverb, but it doesn’t include vibrato or a normal channel. The Accomplice Jr. is also available. This amp provides many of the same features as the Accomplice but it’s been shrunk down to fit in a smaller chassis.

The Brown Sugar amp brings 30 or 15 watts of power in an AB class amp. It brings middle, bass, treble, raw, presence, and bright controls. The reverb uses a 3-spring medium delay accutronics tank with shielded cables and tone control.

Want something a bit simpler? The Hot Fudge amp features only a single tone control and a deep switch. It does, however, have a vibrato that features all tube circuitry. The deep switch adds in an extra 50uf cathode bypass capacitor, bringing more of a Fender like sound.

Then there’s the Encore. This amp has 35 watts of power and several different options, including treble, bass, midrange, bright, and raw. It has recently been given a new faceplate style, updating this amp so that it looks just as incredible as it sounds.

Finally, the Old Flame is an updated version of the classic Old Frame amp that was available years ago. It features a new angled front, a stainless steel chassis, and new barrel knobs. It comes in two new models, too: a 1x12 and a 4x10.

Allen V-18 Handwired Boutique Amp

The Allen V-18 Handwired Boutique Amp has been nicknamed the Sweet Spot, and there’s a reason. This handwired amp, which is a boutique version of the Princeton Reverb amp made by Fender, is one of the best small amps you’ll find. Its sound is much fuller and bigger than the Princeton, making it much better for playing larger gigs. The Sweet Spot comes in several different sizes: a 1x10 combo, 1x12 combo, 1x15 combo, and a 2x12 combo. The 1x10 combo features an Eminence Copperhead speaker.

All of the various Allen V-18 Sweet Spot amps are Class AB and feature bass, treble, and middle controls along with a Bright switch. As far as tubes go, they contain 4 12AX7s, two 6V6 or 6L6s, and a GZ34. The 6V6s pull 18 watts, while those with 6L6s handle 25. As stated above, these amps all feature hand-wired point-to-point wiring. The Reverb features an all-tube driven 3-spring medium-delay tank. This creates a quite lush sound, and many players find that the Sweet Spot is better than just about any other amp they’ve used.
