Smith Custom Amps is a fairly new company that was created in 2002 by Sammy Smith. Smith started his company after noticing that the price of vintage blackface amps was continuing to rise, making it difficult for many players to get a hold of one. Smith started Smith Custom Amps by creating the Smith CS-25, an affordable blackface style amp.
Sammy Smith fabricates each amp himself, and he pays incredible attention to detail, wiring, and construction. He uses Southern Pine in the cabinets and 20 gauge stainless steel for the chassis. All of his amps are done with true point to point wiring as well.
Smith Custom Amps has two different amps available at this time. The first is the Smith Custom CS-25, the first amp Smith built. This amp is a 25 watt class A/B head featuring boost, treble, mids, bass, reverb, dual bright switch, reverb, and a stainless steel chassis, among other things.
The other amp is the Smith Custom CS-10. This amp is a class A singled ended power amp. It feature three power tubes, a 6V6, a 6L6, and a EL34, each of which allows the amp to run in 5, 10, or 12 watt modes. A three way pre-amp bias switch is also available that allows players to switch between tweed, blackface ,and plexi-AC modes.
