Roots music pioneers Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup and Muddy Waters were among a number of struggling musicians in the 40's and 50's who played Silvertones because of their solid build and reasonable price. Word spread quickly and in the course of a few decades the Silvertone had established it's place in the history of american roots music, as the unofficial 1st guitar of the greats. Chet Atkins, Hendrix, Dylan and many others, first cut their teeth on a Silvertone.

For a little history and perspective, Sears began marketing the Silvertone phonograph in 1915, which was a crank powered machine available in freestanding and tabletop and styles. These prototype record players were offered with a 2 week, cash-back guarantee. At the same time Sears launched the Silvertone record label which featured many of the popular artists of the day. They soon added radio tubes and batteries to the mix. In the late 30's sales of radios began to explode with the onset of World War II. Guitars and then amps were a natural next step.

The Silvertone legacy endures to this day as vintage guitar heads buy and sell these classics all over the internet. Just like Silvertone amps and radios, Silvertone guitars have grown to be collectors items for players in search of that one of a kind tone.
