The Cooltron series of pedals was created by Vox, a company that began back in 1957. They produced only guitar amps at that point, but today, they now have many different lines of amps and pedals. The Cooltron effects pedals all feature 12AU7 preamp tubes that operate at a low voltage. The Cooltron pedals are some of the only pedals to make use of this type of tube since it is very difficult to use tubes in battery-powered pedals. However, the seven different Cooltron pedals all not only do this but they also add incredible sound and tone to your instruments.
The Cooltron pedals achieve this by using special circuits that use two special signal paths. The first creates the conditions for the tube to work. The second is the main power supply that constantly provides a low voltage power to the tube’s heater elements. This allows it to operate on a much lower power level. It doesn’t generate nearly as much heat as a full amp would, which is why it can be done in a pedal. Because of this lower power usage, each Cooltron pedal can run for 16 hours on just 4 AA batteries.
The seven Cooltron pedals:
The Bulldog Distortion pedal features gain and volume controls. Gain 1 provides great vintage distortion, while the second gain channel gives you a more modern type of sound.
The Brit Boost adds some amazing treble and upper middle frequency boost, although it also features a full range boost that pumps up the low and bottom end as well.
Want a warm tone with some great dynamics? Then you might want the Big Ben Overdrive pedal. Its gain control gives you options from blues to full, saturated tone.
The Over the Top Boost gives you everything from smooth to extreme treble control. It also helps with the bass, allowing you to add low-end girth or warmer, smoother tones.
For a smooth, silky tone, the Snake Charmer Compressor has several great features, including the gain reduction indicator that shows you the results of the pedal’s settings. It also has a high/low switch and other controls.
Then there’s the VibraVOX pedal, which basically gives you all the sounds and effects of a standard 30 watt amp, only in pedal form. It’s quite flexible, too, and gives you all the control you could ever want.
Finally, the Duel Overdrive pedal has two overdrive circuits that are similar to the Big Ben Overdrive. This gives you two amazing sounds, one classic, one modern. Both channels are completely independent, too.
Named after VOX's first amplifier tremolo circuit, the VIBRAVOX essentially recreates the unique and immensely satisfying Vib/Trem sound from a traditional AC30 and puts it into a pedal that can be used with any amp. To increase flexibility we've added additional user control and features. By including two Speed controls and an effects assign switch (T1/T2, T1/V2, V1/V2), a number of possibilities become available. The VIBRAVOX can be configured as a tremolo only or vibrato only pedal with two foot-switchable speeds. You can also choose to configure the pedal to switch between tremolo and vibrato. To top it off, the pedal automatically ramps between speeds, adding a taste of that unmistakable rotating-speaker sound. Dimensions - 6.63 x 6.12 x 2.52 inches Weight - 2.4lbs.
It's both a treble boost and a full-range boost. The treble boost pumps treble and upper mid frequencies like a vintage Treble Boost pedal. In full-range mode it enhances all frequencies and is a great way to kick a slightly overdriven amp into heavy drive. A gain knob varies the overall gain from mellow to full rip and a tone knob lets you tweak the EQ. Features a true bypass for unaltered tone when not activated.
The Vox CT05CO gives you a smooth and silky tone right at your foot! Compression control allows you to change the ratio and threshold. Low and high ratio switch gives you two overall levels of compression ratio. Low being a more common classic compression ratio, while the high setting gives you a more pronounced percussive attack transient at the beginning of notes. Attack and release controls vary the gain reduction and time of gain attenuation. High-end emphasis control for fine-tuning top end compression, and volume for overall level. Uses a 12AU7 tube. Runs on 4 AA batteries or optional 9v AC. Dimensions - 6.63 x 6.12 x 2.52 inches Weight - 2.4lbs.
