NOC3 EarthTone Boost Pedal

While it is a small pedal, the NOC3 EarthTone Boost Pedal is a great little booster for your clean tones.  If you’re looking for a pedal that’s going to have a great sweetening effect on your guitar, this is what you want.  noc3-earthtone-boost-pedalIt doesn’t add any clipping to your music; instead, it’s an incredibly clean pedal that really does much more than you’d expect, especially since it’s powered by only one JFET transistor.  It’s not an incredibly loud pedal—it’s only going to give you 15 decibels of boost, so if you want loud, you want something else.

However, the NOC3 EarthTone doesn’t cut any highs or bass, and it provides a full frequency response.  It also does true bypass, and it can function as an in-line buffer if you need it to.  You can keep it on constantly to keep that sweetening effect going.  The one thing the NOC3 EarthTone is about is quality.  It’s going to give you an amazing sound.  It might not be loud, but it’s going to get your sounds out there.

This pedal has a simple volume know that you can use to both attenuate and boost your sounds.  One thing to note is that it does not have a battery, so you’ve got to be able to get to an outlet to power it.  Of course, the entire pedal really isn’t much bigger than a standard battery anyway, so you won’t need to worry about space.  The price is pretty small as well: the NOC3 EarthTone Boost retails for $105.

The EarthTone boost is a small compact clean booster powered by a single JFET transistor in a "class A" configuration. The EarthTone's best feature is it's sweetening effect when its on. It does not add any "grit" or clipping, the sound is very very clean but it imparts a goodness to your tone that is hard to describe. The frequency response is full, it does not cut any bass or roll off any highs. It is simple to use, the volume knob can attenuate as well as boost your signal, so it can be used as an in-line buffer and kept on all the time for its sweetening effect. True bypass. Only works with wall wart, no room inside for a battery. It is barely bigger than a battery anyway! It isn't super loud, at only 15dB of boost there are certainly louder boosts around but the EarthTone is about quality rather than quantity. The EarthTone has plenty of juice for getting above the mix or pushing an amp on the edge.

The Rock Candy Overdrive features the standard Volume and Gain controls, but that is where standard ends for this pedal. It has the added feature of separate Treble & Bass controls which allows the user to truly dial in any tone they desire. Another addition that makes the Rock Candy so versatile is the Lowpass Limiting Switch which clips frequencies above 600Hz at varying degrees depending on the setting. In the middle position, there is the least amount of clipping, and only the loudest peaks of your signal will pass through and be clipped. This gives a brighter, more open sound. The up position provides slightly more clipping and bit more saturation to the drive sound. The down position provides the most clipping, and more smooth top end compression. This is a great low-medium overdrive that has very robust build quality, and will work with just about any set up from blues, rock, country, and everything in-between!
